For current clients, what is the best way to contact us?

Quick questions can usually be answered in at most a few hours via email at info@proactivegenetics.com or give us a call at 1-866-427-1646. If you would like to call after hours, leave a message and we will be notified even if nobody is in the office and your call should be returned soon. back to top

Is it alright to test twins if they are sick and/or taking medication?

Yes, it is alright to test your twins if they are sick. Although swabbing is typically painless and well tolerated, if the twins' mouths or gums are irritated, tender, or dry for any reason, it is suggested to delay the swabbing procedure. If the twins are taking any medications, this will have no impact on the DNA itself and it is safe to go ahead and obtain the sample. back to top

How long will an unused test kit last?

If you are unable to complete the swabbing immediately, the kits can be kept for a long period of time until you decide to obtain the sample. Please call us if you are considering using a kit that is more than 6 months old. However, once you obtain the DNA sample, the kits should be mailed back as soon as possible. It also desirable that if the twins are living apart that the samples be sent back within a few weeks of each other. back to top

Can I perform the swabbing over multiple days?

Yes. If the second swabbing session was missed for one or both twins, it can be completed on another day. back to top

What is the solution in the collection tubes?

The solution in the tube is a buffer solution with salt and detergent. It is designed to protect and preserve the cheek cells during shipment and before the DNA is extracted. back to top

What if the samples become mixed?

Should swabs from two twins become mixed-up and even potentially placed in the same vial, please contact us and we will provide you with a replacement kit for no charge. If the samples are mixed, even only slightly, the analysis can be complicated and potentially erroneous. back to top

When kits are mailed to two separate addresses, how will they be tracked independently?

When a pair of twins being tested live in separate locations, the samples will be reunited in our lab prior to testing. A component of the control number on the side of the tube is unique to each pair of twins. Kits are considered received (and an email confirmation is sent) only after both samples have been returned. back to top

Where can I get another copy of the swab kit instructions?

You may download another swab kit instruction set in Microsoft Word Document format by right clicking on this link and choosing "save as." back to top

How quickly must I ship my samples?

We ask that you please ship your kits the same day which you complete the second swabbing session. The buffer solution which is contained within the tubes is designed to protect and preserve your samples during shipment. However, if the return shipment is delayed in the postal system, the sample will be fine as DNA itself is quite stable. back to top

Can I receive graphical test results?

We do not routinely offer graphical test results due to the fact that they are open to technical interpretation and it is often difficult for a lay person to sufficiently understand some of the complexities which arise in studying the markers. However, if you have a specific need for raw data, please contact us and let us know. back to top

Will my testing be expedited if I send back the samples using a faster method such as FedEx overnigh

Sometimes this will greatly decrease the turnaround time. However, we suggest that you give us a call to verify this before incurring the expense of mailing back with a faster method. back to top

What mailing method do we suggest for international clients?

We prefer that most international clients return their samples with a tracking number attached. The speed of the mailing is not as important as its ability to be tracked. back to top
